Meet Dr. Stern

William R. Stern, M.D.

William R. Stern, M.D., is a graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology where he received a Bachelor’s degree in biology and a Master’s degree in nutritional biochemistry. Dr. Stern graduated from the Mount Sinai School of Medicine and received his M.D. degree in 1977.

He did his training in Internal Medicine at the George Washington University Medical Center and then went on to a Fellowship in Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition at the Washington Veterans Administration Medical Center.  He is on the active staff of Shady Grove Adventist Hospital, where he has served previously as Chairman of the Gastroenterology subsection,  and Montgomery General Hospital.

Dr. Stern is a past President of the Montgomery County Medical Society, and served on the Board of Trustees of Med Chi, the Maryland State Medical Society.  Dr. Stern is a Fellow of the American College of Gastroenterology, and is Board Certified in both Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology. Dr. Stern is currently serving as the Governor for Maryland for the American College of Gastroenterology. He has been listed among the Washingtonian Top Doctors in Gastroenterology in 1999, 2002, 2005, 2008 and 2010.

In his spare time, Dr. Stern enjoys reading, biking, skiing and spending time with his family.  In 2008, Dr. Stern and his wife rode a tandem in a 200 mile charity bike ride for the Alyn Children’s Hospital.
